How AllSet works

A short guide. Nothing here is compulsory — the app works fine before you set any of it up.

The main screen

Everything you need tonight, in the order the evening actually goes.

⏳ Overdue — anything still owed from before, folded into one line with a count. It starts closed, so a bad week never buries today; tap it to open. Homework drops off this list after a week — it's still in your planner, and it's still yours to do. Projects stay for as long as they need to.

⏰ Today — what's due today. Things you've already finished stay here, ticked and faded, so the pile visibly shrinks instead of vanishing.

Bring — the subjects on tomorrow's timetable. This is the packing list: what goes in the bag tonight. It only appears once a timetable has been added.

🎒 Due tomorrow — tomorrow's work, with a progress bar. When it's all done you get the "You're ready!" screen.

🌙 Wind down for tonight — appears from 5pm. Walks through anything still open for tomorrow and finishes with what to pack.

📢 Exams — a countdown once an exam is close, with how prepared you are. See [Exams, start to finish](#exams-start-to-finish).

📅 Later this week — everything that isn't tonight's problem. A repeating activity shows once, marked 🔁 — the next time it comes round. Tick it and the one after takes its place.

Opening the app — after a few hours away, a short welcome screen comes first: what you finished, your streak, and what's due tomorrow. Anything left from before is one line with a count, because it's on the home screen anyway.

Adding things

Tap ＋. Choose To do or Learnt, pick the type, pick a subject, type what it is.

• To do — Homework, Project, Exam, Note, Activity
• Learnt — something already studied, so it lands in the learning journal and on the calendar. Sources: on my own, in class, tuition, other.

Homework defaults to being due tomorrow, because that's usually the point. An activity defaults to today, because it either happens today or on the days you pick.

Activities — the half of the week that isn't school

＋ → Activity. Anything in their week that no teacher sets: practice, classes, chores, plans. Football, piano, Saturday chess, tidy the room, a birthday party, Friday dinner.

• Start from the tiles. The grid shows a few examples on day one so you can see what this is for; it fills up with your own as you use it, and once you have six of your own the examples go away.
• A time is optional. "Football 6pm" helps you plan an evening; "tidy room Saturday" doesn't need a clock.
• Repeats are a day picker, not a frequency. Tap one day for weekly, tap all seven for daily, tap Mon/Wed/Fri for three times a week. Occurrences are real rows to the end of the term, so you can delete just this one or all future ones.
• Stars are optional, and a parent sets them. A child never sets what an activity is worth.

A repeating activity doesn't wait for ever. Monday's football is Monday's — you can't do it late. It sits on the home screen on its day, and for the two days after that it appears in the welcome screen under ⭐ Still counts, where ticking it still earns the full stars. After that it goes quiet: no stars, no red, no nagging. It stays in your planner either way, so you can always look back at what happened. One you didn't do is Skipped — not missed. A skipped chore isn't a failure.

Stars are kept separate from schoolwork, on purpose. They have their own pile. Tidying a room does not raise the level, does not extend the schoolwork streak, and never appears on the report card — those measure school work, and a report card that counted chores would be saying something untrue about how a term went. Missing an activity does not break the streak either.

A tutor can add a study plan to the child they were invited for, and both sides can comment on it. Anything a tutor adds is always visible to the family. Activities the family adds are private to the family unless you switch on "show to tutors", which is off to start with and applies to every tutor you have invited.

Exams, start to finish

An exam moves through three stages on its own. You only ever do the first one.

1. Preparing. Open the exam and add its topics — the chapters or sections you have to get through. Tick each one as you learn it. The card shows how far you've got (📚 3/8), and every ticked topic is worth points and counts towards your streak, because revising *is* real work.

2. ✅ Ready. Tick the last topic and the exam says Ready. That's the part you control, and it's the part worth being pleased about — being ready is a thing you did, and no mark can take it away.

3. ✓ Taken. Once the exam day is over — from late afternoon, not at midnight, so the app is still cheering you on while you're actually sitting it — the exam moves itself to Taken. Nobody has to tell it. It moves to the Taken list on the Exams page and a 📊 add result button appears, so marks can go in the same evening you get home.

Ready and Taken are different things. Ready means the studying is finished. Taken means the paper is behind you. Being ready early doesn't mean you've sat it, and sitting one you didn't revise for still counts as taken. The app never mixes the two up.

Where to find exams: the 📝 Exams chip at the top of Subjects. There's deliberately no permanent Exams tab in the bottom bar — a countdown you can't look away from isn't a plan, it's a worry.

Points, levels and streaks

Points come from finishing real work:

There's a daily maximum of 150 points, which sits above the busiest honest day — you shouldn't ever notice it.

The big number is your lifetime total, and it never resets. It only ever goes up, whatever else happens.

Levels climb through the term: Starter → Rising → Steady → Champ → Star → Ace → Hero → Legend. They restart each term, so there's always something to climb — and the ladder is sized to *your* term. If you joined halfway through, it's measured from the day you started, not from a term you weren't here for.

🔥 Streak counts days in a row with real work done. Days with nothing due don't break it — weekends, holidays, days off. You can't lose a streak on a day you had nothing to do.

🧊 Streak freezes — you earn one for every week you keep going (up to 3). If you miss a day, one is used automatically and your streak survives. They appear in the points sheet once you've earned one.

🏆 Trophies — one for every term

At the end of each term you earn a trophy. It lands on your shelf and stays there for good.

It isn't scored on points. Points measure how much work there was, which is mostly up to your school. A trophy measures you:

Only term exams count. Formative assessments and class tests don't — those are ordinary weeks, and turning every fortnight into a graded event isn't the point.

🎖️ Finisher · 🥉 Bronze · 🥈 Silver · 🥇 Gold · 💎 Diamond. Everyone who turned up gets one — the tier is what changes. Finisher isn't a consolation prize; it means the term is behind you and the next one starts clean.

If your school sets no term exams, the trophy is scored on showing up alone. Nothing is counted as zero just because it doesn't exist.

On the free plan, marks can't be entered, so the trophy is scored on showing up alone and tops out at 🥈 Silver. Gold and Diamond certify exam results, and without marks there's nothing to certify.

Opening it

When a term ends, its card appears sealed. Tap it to open — that's the moment the trophy is minted, and the celebration is yours. Everyone in the family gets their own; whoever opens the app first doesn't use up anybody else's.

Tapping an opened trophy plays it again, as often as you like.

A term with missing marks waits. The card says so, and names which papers are still needed. It opens as soon as they're in.

Once opened, a trophy never changes. Marks entered late can raise it; nothing can lower it.

Who enters marks

Either of you, on a paid plan. If your child enters them, you're told, and you can correct them — and a child-entered mark has to be confirmed by a parent before the trophy will open. Marks that were already in the app before this existed are treated as yours, not theirs, and need no confirmation.

Marking a day off

Tap any day in the Planner.

• Mark absent — anyone can. The day stops counting against your streak. It doesn't ask why, and it isn't recorded: sick, travelling, a family day — they all mean the same thing here, which is that the day shouldn't count.
• 🎉 Mark holiday — parents only, and it asks what the holiday is.

Both can be undone. Marking a day off adjusts your streak and points automatically.

Setting up your year

Settings → School year (shown as Academic year if you're studying on your own). All optional.

1. Year starts / ends — the first and last day of your year.
2. Weekend — tap the days you're off. Not everywhere closes on Saturday and Sunday.
3. How is the year divided? - Whole year — one long run. - Term by term — points restart each term and every term earns a trophy. Add each term with just its start date; it runs to the day before the next one begins.

Worth knowing: the last term of a year doesn't close until you tell the app the next one has begun — so its trophy waits for that. When a run of term exams finishes, the app will ask whether the term has ended and offer the dates; saying yes closes it and mints the trophy. It never sets them by itself.

4. Holidays (optional) — import your holiday calendar as a PDF, or type the dates in. We work out which entries are holidays, breaks, exams and term markers, and show you the list before anything is saved.

If your school or college sends a scanned PDF (a photo or a picture of a page), there is no text inside it for us to read. Use Type dates instead — it takes a minute.

The class timetable

Settings → Class timetable. Also optional, and it's what makes the packing list work.

• 📄 Import PDF — most timetables work, whichever way round they're laid out.
• ⌨ Type periods — one line each: Monday first period English, or a whole day at once: Tuesday: Science, Hindi, PE.
• Or just type into the grid. Anything can go in a cell — Swim, Robotics, Library — it doesn't have to be one of your subjects.

Importing again replaces the timetable.

Family

Settings → Family. Invite by email:

• Parent — full control, including the year and holidays.
• Student — one per plan. Remove the current student before adding another.

Tutors are no longer added here. Settings → Tutors is where you invite one, and they see only the child you invite them for.

What it costs, and what's free

There are two ways to use AllSet, and the difference is simple: receiving is free, adding is paid. Everything a teacher or tutor sends is free forever; the subscription is for the rest of the week — the school work you add yourself, and everything outside school.

The free tier needs a teacher. If a teacher has added your child to their class, everything they set arrives in the planner and your child can tick it off — for as long as they teach them, at no cost. That is not a trial and it does not run out.

More than one child costs nothing. Up to three children, free or paid. If each of them has a teacher, all three planners fill up on their own and you see them together. The number of children never changes the price.

Your subscription renews on its own until you cancel, monthly or yearly, whichever you chose. You can cancel any time — it stops the next payment and you keep what you have already paid for. If a payment fails, nothing changes for seven days while your bank retries.

Nothing is ever deleted. If you stop paying, everything you added stays readable — you simply cannot add more — and anything a teacher sets keeps arriving either way.

If you change your mind within seven days of your first payment, write to us and we will refund it in full. No reason needed.

Other screens

• Planner — day, week, month and year views. Colours: plain for a class day, grey for a weekend, amber for a holiday. Marked days show what they are.
• Subjects — tap one for its homework, exams and its 📖 learning journal.
• Report card — marks and progress, compared only to your own past results.
• Documents — import a PDF, and open the originals to check what was actually sent. Anyone in the family can import — the student is usually the one holding the handout. Every imported file records who added it, the original stays in the list for anyone to open, and a parent can delete anything. Nothing is saved until it's been looked over.

Questions people ask

Do I have to set any of this up? No. Without a calendar the whole year counts as one long run, and everything else works exactly the same.

Why didn't my points change when I marked a day sick? Marking a day off only helps if work was due and unfinished that day. If nothing was missed, there's nothing to rescue.

Something disappeared from the home screen. Is it lost? No. Nothing is ever deleted. The home screen only shows what's live: a repeating activity leaves two days after its day, and overdue homework leaves after a week. Both are still in the planner, and homework that was owed is still owed — open the day, or the subject, and it's there.

Why is the wind-down button missing? It appears from 5pm, and hides once you've done it for the day.

Can my child change the term dates or holidays? No. Those are parent-only — they decide trophy targets. A student can only mark a sick day, and it records who marked it.

Does the learning journal earn points? No, on purpose. It's a record of what you've learnt, not a scoreboard.

My points went down at the start of term. Where did they go? Nowhere. The lifetime total — the big number — never resets. What restarts is the level ladder for the new term, so the climb begins again. The term you just finished is on the shelf as a trophy.

We joined halfway through a term. Are we judged on the weeks we missed? No. Everything is measured from the day you started. A term you were only here for the last three weeks of is scored on those three weeks — though a term you missed more than a quarter of tops out at 🥈 Silver, because there isn't enough of it to certify more.

We joined after a term had already finished. Why is there no trophy for it? Because you weren't there. The app won't award a medal for a term it has no record of you attending — that would make every other trophy on the shelf mean less.

Why does my child have more points than a friend with a better trophy? Points count work; a trophy counts showing up and exam results. A school that sets a lot of homework produces a lot of points. Turning up every day is the thing the trophy is actually measuring.
